This years theme of the international yoga day

Every year has a new theme for the international yoga day. This year's theme is "yoga at home with family" as a result of COVID-19 where we have to come together and practice our yoga virtually. It invites us to connect with our loved once and to come e and practice together at home. So we invite you to prepare yourself for this special day by making sure you have props and everything needed for your home practice and invite your loved once to come and practice together with you on this special day.

Why do we celebrate international yoga day?

The international yoga day was an initiative of the Prime minster of India Narendra Modi by holding an impactful speech for the UN.

A part of his speech:

"Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world, and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help us deal with climate change. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day”.

It is a day with the purpose to spread the awareness of yoga amongst people and educate them about the effects and benefits of practicing yoga. Not just educating about its health benefits but also, the effects of the spiritual and mental health benefits and how becoming conscious can make this world a better place.

It is a day for us fellow yoga students around the globe to connect and come together. This is our day to celebrate and connect with this wonderful community that has been created all over the world.

Why is it on the 21st of June?

The 21st of June is known and declared as the International Yoga day as it is the longest and lightest day of the year in the Northern hemisphere and is known as a special day in many parts of the world.

How should I celebrate the International yoga day?

Being a part of the global yoga community, this is your day to celebrate. Start with thinking about what celebration would make you feel good. Is it by spreading the word and befits of yoga to the people around you? Or is it a day for you to be silent and just reflect and be grateful for everything your yoga practice has been giving you and teaching you?

Here are some things you can do to connect with the global yoga community on the international yoga day:

- Join an online yoga practice

- Join the community where we have yoga lovers from all over the globe and start discussing the wonderful topic of yoga

- Reflect on your own yoga story - how did you start and when did it start- Who introduced yoga to you and what has that been giving you?

- Who says that you can't spend this day by baking and eating a cake together with your loved once to celebrate the international yoga day?
