What is Women Empowerment and how can we empower each other?

Ever since Louise founded Moonchild yoga wear back in 2015, the focus has always been to empower women. Design clothes for women by women. As a women-run business and a team behind the brand filled with women with different nationalities, it has always been one of the core values of the brand to empower women.

What is Women Empowerment?

According to the UN Women Empowerment is “women’s sense of self-worth; their right to have and to determine choices; their right to have access to opportunities and resources; their right to have the power to control their own lives, both within and outside the home; and their ability to influence the direction of social change to create more just social and economic order, nationally and internationally.” (source)

We have grown up in an environment and a society where we as women have had a disadvantage because of our gender, we have grown up competing against other women and seeing them as our threat. But we do not believe in this type of competition and only see how it causes more harm. For us, it is important to focus on the sisterhood, empower each other, and help each other out, women for women.

How can we Empower Women?

Women for Women International

The organization Women for Women is working with helping women survivors of war rebuilt their lives. Since 1993, they have helped more than 462,000 marginalized women to overcome the horrors of war and work towards a better future for themselves and their families.

This is a very special organization for us at Moonchild since Moonchild has been working together with Women for Women since 2018. Each year Moonchild supports women through a 12-months training program to help them start their own business and take care of themselves and their families for the future.

This is a great way to empower women through sponsoring a sister or donating to the organization: find more information on what you can do here

Educated by Tara Westover

Another great way to Empower Women is through reading, to get more knowledge and understanding of the topic. One book we favor would be Educated by Tara Westover.

She grew up in a survivalist family in Idaho, going to school was strictly discouraged by her paranoid father. So instead she started to teach herself. In the book, you get to follow her journey and later attending both Harvard and Cambridge University. Find it here

Educate and Empower your children

We need to focus on how we educate and teach our children. How we empower our daughters and teach her to cheer on her fellow sister instead of seeing girls as their enemies. Here is a bunch of inspiring children books with the focus on empowering women - here are a few that we suggest:

- Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 tales of extraordinary women

- Little Leaders: Bold Women In Black History

- Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers Who Changed the World

Cheer on your sisters!

This attitude where we see the females around us as a threat needs to go. Empowering other women by helping them, being there for them and cheering for them. Be happy and inspired when other women succeed and help your sisters out. We are a team who are meant to cheer on each other instead of creating hate and jealousy amongst one another. So do your part. Show your sister that you are there for them and you empower and appreciate them!

Lastly, focus on sharing your light and love towards all the women you meet. Focus on your work and what you can do to empower women and you will start inspiring other women to start doing the same.

Remember that you can always join Moonchild´s community filled with powerful women, a great place for empowering one another!

much love,

Team Moonchild
